Making sure that every piece of the puzzle fits perfectly is how Adam Peters would describe his calling. As an Executive Search Consultant with The Lee Group, sometimes referred to as a recruiter, Peters strives to find the right fit for companies and the right fit for team members.
Like a puzzle piece.
Peters specializes in helping companies find team members who work in the manufacturing industry and takes pride in helping those he finds jobs reach their own personal and career goals.
What else drives him? We sat down with Peters and asked him.
What was your first job?
My first job was a paperboy when I was 9-years-old. My brother and I had a route in our small town in Ohio. I would deliver papers on one side of the road and he took care of the other side. When we got home from school, we had to roll the papers in rubber bands, stuff them in our bags and then ride our bikes to make our deliveries. When I was a teenager, I worked at Chick-fil-a, and as a lifeguard during the summers. Working as a lifeguard was by far my favorite position because who doesn’t enjoy being at a pool all day with your friends and getting paid for it!?
What is the best job advice you ever received?
Just because you are a top performer, doesn’t make you a great leader. This was shared with me after being passed over for a promotion by a previous manager.
What is the best job advice you ever gave?
Don’t make a job change only for a raise or for a promotion. Make sure it will improve your quality of life whether that be a shorter commute, more time at home with family, better benefits or finding a position with a company where you enjoy going to work every day. Most all of us have to work for a living, so make sure you are looking for all of the right reasons.
What are the biggest challenges out there for people searching for jobs today?
Getting noticed by a prospective employer. There are so many jobs, and everyone can apply with the click of a button. The problem with that is EVERYONE can apply, and you may apply for a position with 500 candidates and only 20 of them are qualified for the role. It’s hard to get noticed by the hiring manager when your resume gets buried and you never get a call, even when you are perfect for a role.
What are the biggest challenges out there for companies looking to hire great team members today?
One of the biggest challenges for companies and their teams is time. They don’t have enough time to review or recruit for candidates for their open positions and complete the daily operational functions of their roles. A lot of positions require you to dedicate a good amount of time to finding the perfect person who will be a great fit for your organization and team. When you partner with us at Lee Group Search, we are able to send you qualified candidates directly, help schedule interviews, present offers and save you time with your hiring process. We want to be your partner and help you in any way we can so we can make your life easier, make the hiring process better and find you qualified candidates faster.
Can you recall a time where you saw the real impact a job, or having the right person working for a company, made in someone’s life?
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping people in their lives. Whether that means helping someone relocate closer to family, friends, moving home, getting that promotion they deserve, or finding a role that allows a better work life balance. It is very rewarding when you can tell a person is genuinely appreciative for all of your hard work and helping them move forward in their career no matter their motivation.
